We have celebrated the Bean-throwing festival (which is considered as the day before the beginning of Spring in Japan ). We threw beans to drive away the evil spirits that bring misfortune and bad health with them.Then as part of bringing luck in, we ate beans one for each year of one's life.

Devil came to our class...
This week,we celebrated Mame-Maki or Setsubun or "Bean-Throwing Festival" in English. One of the tradition in Japan wherein people throw beans at the devil which stands for bad things and welcome in good fortunes and good luck.
We did this event first at school,wherein Grape class pretended to be the devils for the small children and been chased away and thrown beans at. The children had so much fun.
After throwing the beans,they enjoyed their time eating the left-overs...
Today,we also did our Mame-Maki at the park and the children threw beans at the devils. Everyone had a great time...
And after all the running,everyone enjoyed their time at the park playing with their friends and others are eating beans...

Last Thursday was the first day of our Culture Day! The children learned lots of things about Czech Republic from Ms. Katrina- the different places, clothes, food and etc.The children also had a chance to look at the famous book in Czech which had the same story as one in Japan
The boys in Grape and Melon Class had also a chance to wear the uniform of the famous soccer players at Czech. It was a unique activity for the children and most of them enjoyed the activity especially after eating lunch. They were able to taste a Czech Kolac cake. It was really good!
In the afternoon on the same day, the
Grape Class prepared food representing each country; Kolac cake-Czech, Nori maki - Japan, Polvoron - Philippines and Keema Curry from India.making Nori makimaking Polvoron sweets(Philippines) can't help licking their hands after making the polvoronThis is how it looked like after arranging the different foodWe put the flags on the top of the plastic box to distinguish which country the food came from.
The next day, Jan 25, the Grape Class learned the flags of different countriesthe children cut and sticked the flags on their maps Most of the children showed enthusiasm in learning the culture of the different countries. Until next time!
